Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary

This was the last photo taken before my daughter Juno was born.

Her brother had gone to stay with his grandparents, her father was at work and I was all alone at home, waiting for her to join us (as she did, 12 hours later).

I was all alone in my own home, and she alone in hers.

  1. whos stomach is it ???

  2. But neither of you are alone…you are together as one. At least for now :) Congrats !

    • I once had a great discussion with a friend about the difference between being alone and being lonely. In life, I’ve often been alone but never felt lonely; pregnancy was the opposite, strangely.

  3. Like this a lot. It’s a photojournalistic shot – with great depth into the shot and lots of information about the surroundings against the obvious point of focus, which is the bump.

Nice comment – you alone and she alone.

    • Thanks so much, David. At the time it was taken I was mostly preoccupied with what came next — Juno was born very early the next morning, on her due date — and not really thinking about the shot. I like how it turned out, given my state of distraction/contraction.

  4. Beautiful composition & beautiful subject!

  5. great perspective/composition!

  6. I don’t know photography but this is amazing!

  7. So this was your eviction notice photo to her ;-)

  8. Love This. Amazing!

    • Thank you! Sounds so cliché but it truly feels like yesterday. And not just because my belly remains the same approximate size, haha.

      • That I doubt! From the pictures you post – gorgeous mama! Love love love love the pictures…inspiring me to make sure I don’t forget about the ones on my phone. so … thank you!!!

  9. Well, cliché or not – I still remember mine too. And, my stomach is taking on somewhat the same size again – now for tottally different reasons…

    • Yes … I’ve not actually been asked when I’m due (again) but I could hardly blame someone for making that assumption …

  10. Beautiful photo! Thank you for the like on my weekly photo challenge photos! Come back and visit again soon!

  11. I love this post. What a great photo.

  12. It is such a great feeling when no one is around, and all you have is peace. I remember those days when My daughter was young. :) Bless your heart.

  13. Great Idea !
    Well Done

  14. WoW! Interesting shot.

    • Thanks! It’s the last photo of my last day of (every being) pregnant, so it’s special on that count even if it’s not photographically spectacular.

  15. Beautiful… :-)
